Updating your BIOS is an important step in maintaining the operation and security of your computer. This article will walk you through updating your BIOS to make sure you get the performance and security necessary to keep you operating as intended.
Lenovo users should follow these instructions:
- Make sure your laptop is plugged into power.
- Launch Lenovo Commercial Vantage from the program’s menu.
- If you have never run it before allow Vantage to install its required processes, you may need to enter administrator credentials here.
Accept the license agreements.

Once Lenovo Commercial Vantage is launched click “Check for System Updates”.

- After the scan is completed, a popup will appear telling you that the update will require a restart, click "Accept".
- After the update is downloaded your computer will restart and be unusable for 10-20 minutes.
- Once the update is complete you should be running the most secure version of the BIOS.
Dell users should follow these instructions:
- Go to the Dell SupportAssist site: www.dell.com/en-us/lp/dt/support-assist-for-pcs
- Click “Download Now “.
- Run the downloaded file.
- Enter your administrator credentials, if needed.
- Click “Launch”.
- Click the down arrow to reveal more options.
- Click “Run” under Get drivers & downloads.
- Once the tool has identified the needed drivers click “Update”
- Click “Install”.
- When prompted reboot your device and wait for the updates to complete.
