Wednesday, September 2, 2020
The most common problem with Chromecast and Google Home devices is caused by attempting to connect them to the wireless network before registering them with Clearpass. Following these instructions can mitigate most problems.
First, EIT recommends resetting the Chromecast/Home devices back to factory defaults before starting.
Resetting Chromecast/Google Home
-
- Power up the device and wait for it to finish booting
- Chromecast: Press the reset button until it reboots (approximately 5-7 seconds).
-
- Google Home: Press the reset button until you hear the chime
-
- Power on the Chromecast/Home device.
- Download and install the Google Home app on your smartphone.
- Configure your phone’s WiFi settings to connect to the Chromecast/Home device’s WiFi network.

- Important: When the “Connect to WiFi” screen appears, click on the ellipses. Do not select the RHIT-OPEN network at this time.

-
- Record the MAC address to register it with Clearpass
-
