PURPOSE:

The Global Protect VPN (Virtual Private Network) client allows remote access to on-campus network resources. This procedure will walk you through installing, setting up, and using the client.

Rose-Hulman Institute issued machines, Windows, Off-campus, personal devices
 

Global Protect VPN Client Setup

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE AN INCOMING FRESHMAN OR INSTALLING ON A PERSONAL DEVICE, PLEASE USE THE "WITHOUT COMPANY PORTAL" STEPS BELOW. 

INSTALLING THE CLIENT (With Company Portal):

If you are a current Rose-Hulman student, staff, or faculty member, you should be able to install Global Protect from the Company Portal application.

1. Go to the search bar at the bottom of your screen and type in "Company Portal." Then press the Enter key. 

2. Once Company Portal opens, scroll through the list of applications or type Global Protect into the search bar at the top of the window. 

3. Click on the listing for Global Protect, then click "Install." 

4. Once it is finished, it should open on the bottom right of your screen. in the Portal Address field, type gp.rose-hulman.edu. Then click connect.

5. You may be asked to authenticate when you connect for the first time, be ready to enter your password or authenticate through your normal authentication method. 

6. When you are finished using the global protect application, click on the globe in your system tray on the bottom right of your screen and click "Disconnect."

 

INSTALLING THE CLIENT (Without Company Portal):

  1. Most computers, including all Rose-Hulman Institute issued machines, should be able to download the Windows 64-bit client from the GlobalProtect appliance.
    1. Older computer should download the Windows 32-bit client from the GlobalProtect appliance.
  2. Open the downloaded file - click Next
  3. Accept the file location by choosing Next
  4. Chose Next to confirm the installation - If prompted enter a local administrator username and password to launch the installer
  5. When Installation is complete click Close

SETTING UP THE CLIENT:

  1. The Global Protect Client will pop up in the lower right corner or it may be in the system tray, click on the Gray Globe (). (You may need to click the Up Arrow to find it.).
  2. Enter gp.rose-hulman.edu for the portal address and click Connect   
  3. This is what it will look like when you are connected

You will now be connected to the Global Protect VPN. You will be able to use all the network resources (including DFS and printers) as if you were on campus.

TURNING OFF THE CLIENT:

  1. The Global Protect Client is in the system tray, click on the Gray Globe. (You may need to click the Up Arrow to find it.)
  2. Click Disconnect.
