Changing your Default Printer in Windows 11

When Windows 11 is first installed on your computer, you will need to add printers.  To add printers, please visit this Knowledge Base Article entitled, How do I connect to a network printer?  Once printers are added, you can choose the printer you would like to set as your default.

To change the default printer:

  1. Navigate to Control Panel.
  2. Under the Hardware and Sound category, click View devices and printers.
  3. Once the settings screen shows up click on Printers and Scanners.
  4. Find the printer you wish to make the default on the list and click on it, then click on More devices and printers settings
  5. A new window should appear with the list of printers that have been added, right-click on the intended printer.
  6. Click Set as default printer. You may get a prompt to disable Let Windows manage my default printer, click Ok
  7. Under the printer you have just selected as the default printer, there will be a green check mark.
  8. Print a test page to the new default printer to make sure it has been set properly.
